Opening Ceremony plans unveiled for the Games

Quesnel, BC – The Lhtako Quesnel 2024 BC Winter Games are set to kick off with an Opening Ceremony on February 22nd at West Fraser Centre. With over 1500 participants filling the stands and floor seating, limited tickets have been made available to visiting family of participants, but there are more ways to watch.

Volunteers, parents of performers, and Quesnel residents may view the Opening Ceremony dress rehearsal on Thursday, February 22nd at 10:30 am. This will be a full dress rehearsal featuring all performances, and missing only the parade of participants.

There will also be a first-come-first-served viewing party at North Star Church, livestreaming the Opening Ceremony, with hot chocolate and popcorn available. Doors will open at 6:00 pm, with the show to start at 7:00 pm. Family and Friends of participants not able to get the limited seats at the live event, and those volunteers and parents of performers not able to attend the dress rehearsal are encouraged to attend the viewing party.

Finally, anyone can watch the Opening Ceremony via live stream from the comfort of their own home. The livestream will be available on from a link on the Games website –, via the Russell AV YouTube Channel, and broadcast live on the local Rogers channel.

The Opening Ceremony will be emceed by Global BC Reporter Jay Durant, and will feature performances by In Song, 12-year-old soloist Ethan Smith, Jingle Dancers, For the Love of Dance, and Gold Pan City Dance. Correlieu Jazz Band will play a pre-show performance starting at 6:45 (also available via livestream).

President of the Lhtako Quesnel 2024 BC Winter Games, Brian Balkwill says, “The Games are about more than the sport competitions. The Opening Ceremony is an opportunity to share more of our community with the participants, welcoming them to the Lhtako Dene territory and Quesnel with amazing local talent. Whether you’re in the arena, at the viewing party, or watching from home, you’ll be in for a treat.”

The Games will wrap up on February 25 with a Closing Celebration in LeBourdais Park from 9:45 am – 10:30 am. Everyone is invited to join the athletes, coaches, officials, and volunteers in celebrating the close of the Games.
