Nila Srivastava – Lhtako Quesnel 2024 BC Winter Games Systems Support Chair

Why did you decide to volunteer for the BC Winter Games?
Because it’s THE event to be engaged in! On a serious note, I was looking for volunteering opportunities because I had just relocated to Quesnel and it’s the best way to engage with the community and make friends. Plus, this gave me an opportunity to use my tech skills. When this opportunity arose, I naturally grabbed it with both hands!

What motivates you to volunteer (generally)?
Giving back to the community, learning new skills, meeting new people and using my personal time fruitfully are my main motivators.

What are you bringing to the BC Winter Games Team?
I am bringing my tech experience of several decades as well as team management skills to the Technology Directorate.

How will you benefit from volunteering for the BC Winter Games?
Volunteering for the Games will enable me to not only use my existing tech skills, make new friends and contribute to the community I now call home, but I will get to develop new skills on how to organize, manage and operate a city-wide event of this scale!

If someone was considering volunteering for the Games, what would you tell them to help them make their decision?
I would say, this is a rare opportunity as it is a provincial level event which is being hosted by Quesnel after 24 years! There are so many different domains for each one to choose from based on their interests, skills, knowledge and personality. You get to meet and engage with people, learn new skills, make friends, build your network and contribute to the well-being of your community by supporting sports for the youth. There is nothing to lose and everything to gain.

We’re reaching out to volunteers to share their reasons for signing up to help with the Games.
