Brenda Beatty – Lhtako Quesnel 2024 BC Winter Games Vice President

“I decided to volunteer for the BC Winter Games because it will be one of the biggest and best events that Quesnel has ever hosted; how can you turn down an offer to contribute to this? Plus, getting kids active and playing outdoors is my MO. I am a huge believer that volunteering is mandatory to live well in community. One of my favourite Margaret Mead quotes is, ‘I measure success in terms of the contributions an individual makes to her fellow human beings.’ An event of this scale needs all hands on deck, so if you don’t volunteer, you may be the only one missing out.  Our team has made a commitment to Take Care of our Volunteers.  You will have all you need to be successful in your volunteer task and every volunteer will feel appreciated.” – Brenda Beatty, Vice President, Lhtako Quesnel 2024 BC Winter Games.

Why did you decide to volunteer for the BC Winter Games?
The BC Winter Games will be one of the biggest and best events that Quesnel has ever hosted; how can you turn down an offer to contribute to this? Plus, getting kids active and playing outside is my MO.

What motivates you to volunteer (generally)?
I am a huge believer that volunteering is mandatory to live well in community. One of my favourite Margaret Mead quotes is: “I measure success in terms of the contributions an individual makes to her fellow human beings.”

What are you bringing to the BC Winter Games Team?
Perhaps my team could answer this better than me! I really believe that this event will be amazing, fun, successful and will show the very best elements of Quesnel to the rest of BC. I love working with my incredible team; supporting their successes give me so much fulfillment. As for a particular skill: I am an uber-organised Virgo who loves planning every detail of complex processes.

How will you benefit from volunteering for the BC Winter Games?
Co-hosting the Games with Lhtako Dene has been so enriching for me. I am continually blown away by the growth of services, and infrastructure in that community. Our Lhtako partners make things happen and have amplified the impact of these BC Winter Games by sharing their culture with us. I am really looking forward to the special events they will be hosting in their new Arbour and Longhouse for the participants. I feel strongly that this partnership is one of the most important things that our community is doing to move positively forward in the world right now.

If someone was considering volunteering for the Games, what would you tell them to help them make their decision?
Volunteering at this event is going to be so much fun! An event of this scale needs all hands on deck, so if you don’t volunteer, you may be the only one missing out. Our team has made a commitment to Take Care of our Volunteers. You will have all you need to be successful in your volunteer task and every volunteer will feel appreciated.

We’re reaching out to volunteers to share their reasons for signing up to help with the Games.
