Legacy Grants from the 2022 BC Summer Games to benefit Prince George athletes and sport organizations
In the summer of 2022, Prince George played host to the 2022 BC Summer Games. For four days, the community was alive with high performance sport competitions, incredible volunteer and community support and the buzz of 3000+ visitors.
While the Games may be over, the impact and benefit continue to be felt in Prince George. Today the Prince George 2022 BC Summer Games Host Society unveiled another benefit of the Games as it announced two new Legacy Grants for Prince George athletes and sport organizations.
Local Sport Organization Grant
Eligibility: Prince George sport organizations affiliated with a Provincial Sport Organization that participated in either the Prince George 2022 BC Summer Games or the Greater Vernon 2022 BC Winter Games (see below for list of eligible sports).
Amount available: 7 grants of up to $10,000 each
Eligible Costs: Equipment expenses, insurance, event hosting costs, travel, training for coaching and/ or officials

Athlete/Team Grant
Eligibility: Prince George athletes or teams aged 18 or under. Athlete/team must be a member of a local sport organization that is affiliated with a Provincial Sport Organization that participated in either the Prince George 2022 BC Summer Games or the Greater Vernon 2022 BC Winter Games (see below for list of eligible sports).
Amount available: 10 grants of up to $2022 each
Eligible Costs: Expenses for training, travel, and equipment

The application intake for both grants is open now until September 15, 2023.
“We are excited to offer these grants and provide a helping hand to athletes and sport organizations in Prince George,” says Prince George 2022 BC Summer Games President Renee McCloskey. “This shows that the power of sport is more than just who wins the gold medal. It’s about building community and making us all stronger and we are so pleased to give back to the community that gave its all in hosting the BC Summer Games.”
McCloskey says the 2022 BC Summer Games generated a legacy in Prince George of approximately $175,000. Another announcement will be made in the fall about plans for the remaining legacy dollars.
