Learning Through Sport
Did you know you can earn high school credits for participating in the BC Winter or BC Summer Games? The External Sport Credentials program provides opportunities for students in BC to earn elective credits toward high school graduation by achieving recognized standards of sport excellence as an athlete, coach, or official.
The Ministry of Education and Child Care partners with the Sport Branch of the Ministry of Tourism, Arts, Culture, and Sport, along with viaSport, to manage the External Sport Credentials program. Through this work, Provincial and Disability Sport Organizations have identified eligible competitions and selection processes where athletes may earn credits, including participation in the BC Winter and BC Summer Games.
External Sport Credentials are awarded based on official verification of an athlete’s participation and achievement, which is provided through an External Sport Credential verification letter. These verification letters are issued by the Provincial or Disability Sport Organization (PSO/DSO) for the sport in which the athlete participates. The BC Games Society does not issue verification letters.
For more information about the program, including a list of eligible sports, visit the Ministry of Education and Child Care website
